The bison stands where it has always stood — at the center of the American imagination, and at the center of one of the country’s most beautiful coins. Echoes of the Plains renders the Gold Buffalo across a vast, light-struck prairie, struck gold meeting open land.
The design is James Earle Fraser’s, born on the 1913 Buffalo Nickel — the Native American profile and the standing bison that many consider the most distinctly American coin ever struck. In 2006 the United States revived it in 24-karat gold as the American Buffalo, the nation’s first .9999 fine gold coin. It is a design that has outlived its denomination twice over, because the country never stopped recognizing itself in it. For the 250th year, it returns to the plains it came from.
Printed on brushed aluminum so the gold of the coin catches and shifts with the light, set against a warm, painterly horizon. Fraser’s modeling is held faithfully — the bison’s mass, the profile’s dignity — lifted off the metal into landscape.
A premium numismatic fine-art tribute to America’s 250th anniversary. [Edition of __], individually numbered and documented. A limited release — when it closes, it is never reprinted.
