A frost-covered rail, weathered log huts, and the first light of morning bring Valley Forge to life in this reflective MintMark composition. Set against the historic encampment, the 1776 ~ 2026 Emerging Liberty Dime becomes a symbolic link between the birth of the nation and the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Valley Forge stands as one of the most important places in the American story. During the winter of 1777–1778, General George Washington and the Continental Army endured deprivation, cold, disease, and uncertainty there, yet the encampment came to represent perseverance, sacrifice, and the formation of national resolve. Today, Valley Forge National Historical Park preserves that legacy across its meadows, woodlands, monuments, and reconstructed historic landscapes.

The coin in this piece carries that same spirit of endurance. The U.S. Mint’s 2026 Emerging Liberty Dime was created for the nation’s Semiquincentennial celebration. Its obverse features a determined Liberty, her hair moved by the winds of revolution, wearing a liberty cap with stars and stripes. The reverse features an eagle in flight carrying arrows, symbolizing the American Revolution and the colonists’ fight for independence. Together, the park and the dime speak to liberty won through hardship and preserved through memory.

MintMark’s America 250 collection, this artwork brings together history, landscape, and numismatic symbolism in a piece designed for collectors, patriots, and anyone drawn to the enduring story of the American experiment.

Message from the Artist

I wanted this piece to feel quiet, cold, and resolute — the kind of dawn that carries both hardship and hope. Valley Forge is not just a historic site; it is a place where the nation’s character was tested. The frost, the rough timber, and the early light all helped me lean into that feeling of survival and renewal.

The 1776 ~ 2026 Emerging Liberty Dime felt like the right companion for this setting because it represents the same core idea in a modern form: liberty under pressure, but not defeated. I liked the contrast between the smallness of the coin and the magnitude of what Valley Forge represents. One is held in the hand; the other lives in the memory of the country.

More than anything, I wanted the piece to honor endurance — not triumph in a loud way, but the kind of courage that persists quietly through winter.
