Bas-Relief Monochrome Edition on Brushed Aluminum

Liberty in Enhanced Light — Bas-Relief Monochrome Edition translates the composition into the sculptural language of coins, medals, and classical commemorative relief.

Liberty emerges from a silver-gray field with one arm extended toward the light and an olive branch held at her side. The Liberty Bell, surrounding atmosphere, and implied eagle are compressed into the same shallow visual plane, creating the impression of a monumental American medal enlarged into wall art.

This edition is printed directly onto brushed silver Aluminum DIBOND®, allowing the metallic surface to become part of the composition itself.

A Surface Inspired by Struck Silver

The horizontal grain of the brushed aluminum interacts with the monochrome artwork, adding subtle movement and material depth across the image.

Rather than sitting behind glass or appearing as a conventional printed reproduction, the artwork responds directly to the metallic panel beneath it:

  • Pale and unprinted areas reveal the natural silver surface
  • Dark graphite passages remain matte and controlled
  • Raised-looking highlights gain a more convincing metallic presence
  • The horizontal grain introduces texture without overwhelming the sculptural detail
  • Changing ambient light alters the visibility of the silver beneath the image

This effect reinforces the relationship between the artwork and the visual language of struck coins, commemorative medals, sculpted plaster, and engraved metal.

Premium Brushed-Aluminum Presentation

Material: Brushed silver Aluminum DIBOND®
Thickness: 3 mm
Surface: Metallic silver with a visible horizontal grain
Printing: Direct print onto the aluminum panel
Finish: Matte and glare resistant
White areas: Unprinted pale areas may reveal the metallic silver beneath
Hanging system: Included; hardware may vary by production location
Production: Printed and shipped on demand

The rigid panel creates a clean architectural presentation without the softness of canvas or the reflections associated with acrylic. Its matte finish allows the relief modeling to remain visible under a wider range of lighting conditions.

Why Brushed Aluminum Works for This Edition

The Bas-Relief Monochrome Edition was designed around form, shadow, and compressed depth rather than traditional painted color.

Brushed aluminum strengthens that concept by giving the image an authentic metallic foundation. The panel does not simply reproduce the appearance of silver; it introduces real silver-toned material into the artwork.

The result is especially effective for:

  • Numismatic and coin-collecting spaces
  • Executive offices and private studies
  • Contemporary galleries
  • Modern and industrial interiors
  • Collectors of monochrome, sculptural, or medallic art
The America 250 Connection

The years 1776–2026 mark the 250th anniversary of the United States and a significant historical threshold for American collectors.

Coins and medals have long served as compact national monuments. Their relief, symbolism, and material preserve the visual language of the era in which they were created.

This work carries that tradition into a larger format. Liberty, the Bell, the olive branch, and the implied eagle are presented without embedded slogans or dates. The anniversary meaning is conveyed through form, movement, and material rather than explanatory text.

Artist’s Message

I wanted this edition to feel less like a printed picture of sculpture and more like an object created from the same visual world as a coin or medal.

The brushed aluminum is essential to that idea. Its silver surface appears through selected areas of the design, while the darker passages remain matte and restrained. The horizontal grain moves quietly beneath the image and gives the relief a physical quality that paper or canvas cannot reproduce.

Liberty receives the strongest modeling. Her face, extended arm, open hand, and principal folds emerge with greater clarity, while the Liberty Bell and surrounding atmosphere remain subdued.

The result changes subtly with the room. From one angle, the surface appears quiet and stone-like. From another, the underlying silver becomes more apparent.

This is the edition most directly connected to the material and sculptural traditions of American coinage.

Visual Character

Style: Classical bas-relief and medallic sculpture

Surface: Brushed metallic aluminum
Primary mood: Monumental, restrained, sculptural
Primary symbols: Liberty, Liberty Bell, olive branch, implied eagle

Important Surface Note

Because the artwork is printed directly onto brushed silver aluminum, pale or unprinted areas may reveal the metallic substrate. This is an intentional part of the design and may vary subtly with lighting and viewing angle. The horizontal grain remains visible and contributes to the dimensional character of the finished piece.

Collector Note

This artwork is an independent fine-art interpretation inspired by America’s 250th anniversary and the sculptural principles of numismatic design. It is not an official United States Mint product and does not reproduce an issued coin.
