Printed on brushed silver aluminum for a textured, industrial look. Colors interact with the metallic surface for a unique, artistic effect. Ideal for abstract art, black-and-white photography, and modern spaces:

The Statue of Liberty rises over New York Harbor as golden light breaks across the water, illuminating one of America’s most enduring symbols of freedom. In the foreground, the 1776 ~ 2026 Enduring Liberty Half Dollar rests near a harbor viewing scope, linking the physical monument of Liberty with a historic one-year-only change in American coinage.

The Statue of Liberty has long stood as a symbol of welcome, hope, democracy, and freedom. A gift from France to the United States, “Liberty Enlightening the World” became more than a monument — it became an image of the American promise itself. For generations, her torch has represented guidance, opportunity, and the continuing pursuit of liberty.

The coin in this artwork carries that same message into the nation’s Semiquincentennial year. For 2026 only, the U.S. Mint replaced the familiar Kennedy Half Dollar design with the Enduring Liberty Half Dollar, featuring a close-up view of the Statue of Liberty on the obverse. Her gaze looks outward, steady and forward-facing, as though watching over the next chapter of the American story.

The reverse design deepens that meaning by showing Liberty passing her torch to a new generation, with the inscription “Knowledge Is the Only Guardian of True Liberty.” That message makes the coin especially powerful in the 250th anniversary year: liberty is not merely inherited — it must be understood, protected, and carried forward.

This design change is significant because the Kennedy Half Dollar has been a defining image of the denomination since 1964. For one year, the half dollar returns to the figure of Liberty, creating a rare moment where modern U.S. coinage directly revisits one of the nation’s oldest and most important ideals.

Part of The MintMark’s America 250 collection, this artwork brings together monument, harbor, light, and coinage in a tribute to enduring freedom and the responsibility of every generation to preserve it.

Message from the Artist

I wanted this piece to feel like a quiet moment of recognition — the kind of view where the Statue of Liberty is familiar, but suddenly feels new again. The harbor, the late light, and the viewing scope all create the sense of looking across time rather than simply looking across the water.

The 1776 ~ 2026 Enduring Liberty Half Dollar gave the composition its emotional center. The fact that Liberty returns to the half dollar for one year only, after decades of the Kennedy design, makes the coin feel historically charged. It is not just another anniversary design. It is a reminder that Liberty is the image beneath so much of the American story.

Placing the coin near the viewing scope felt right because this piece is about perspective. We are looking at Liberty as a monument, Liberty as a coin design, and liberty as an idea passed from one generation to the next.
