S-Mint Morgan with California Poppies is part of the Morgans in Bloom Collection, a limited MintMark metal-art series pairing each Morgan Dollar mint with the flower of its home state. This piece honors the San Francisco Mint and its S mintmark, set against the luminous orange of the California poppy.
The artwork centers on a collector-inspired Morgan Dollar reverse study with the San Francisco S mintmark visible beneath the wreath. Around the coin, California poppies and delicate green stems form an elegant asymmetrical botanical arc, creating a refined visual link between the silver coin, western mint history, and California color.
Designed specifically for a brushed silver aluminum finish, the piece uses a deep navy, bronze, and warm gold impasto-style background to complement the aged silver coin surface. The poppies have been brightened and enriched to glow against the darker field, while the metallic substrate adds shimmer, contrast, and artifact-like presence.

Message from the Curator
San Francisco struck some of the most beautiful Morgans ever made, so the “S” earned a flower with real swagger. The California poppy — that electric orange you only get out west — was the only match bright enough to hold its own against the silver. Gold-rush state, gold-rush color, struck in the city that minted the West’s silver.
