A modern American couple stands quietly before the Liberty Bell, hand in hand, with Independence Hall glowing beyond the glass. He wears the uniform of today’s U.S. Army; she stands beside him as a present-day visitor, both reflecting on the fragile beginning of a nation that still asks each generation to carry liberty forward.
Created for The Mintmark’s 250th Anniversary coinage series, this piece honors the 2026 Declaration of Independence Quarter and its powerful Liberty Bell design. The ghosted obverse and reverse of the coin appear in the atmosphere like echoes of the past — Jefferson, the Liberty Bell, and the dual date 1776~2026 woven into a scene of remembrance, service, and national continuity.
The painting connects America’s founding moment with the present day: Independence Hall in the distance, the Liberty Bell in the foreground, and a modern military family standing between history and responsibility. It is a tribute to the Declaration, to the ideals it announced, and to the generations who have defended them.
Artist Message
This piece is about the distance between 1776 and today — and how close that history can still feel when you stand before the Liberty Bell.
I wanted the scene to feel quiet rather than loud. The couple is not marching, celebrating, or posing. They are simply standing there, holding hands, taking in the weight of the place. The soldier represents service in the present. His companion represents the ordinary American life that liberty is meant to protect. Behind them is Independence Hall, and before them is the Bell — damaged, imperfect, and still powerful.
The ghosted coin images are meant to feel like memory entering the room. They remind us that coinage is more than metal; it can become a national keepsake, a small object carrying a very large story.
