Robert Scot's Flowing Hair Liberty faced a nation that barely existed yet. Today, fewer than 150 examples are believed to survive, and the finest known sold at auction for over $10 million — for years the most valuable coin ever sold. Every silver dollar that followed, from the Morgan to the Peace to the Eagle, descends from this one.
