The Ghost Dollar tells the story of the only Peace Dollar you can't own — except like this.

In May 1965, the Denver Mint struck 316,076 silver dollars dated 1964 — the last Peace Dollars ever made. They were never released. Every coin was ordered back to the melting pot, and to this day, not a single confirmed example exists. If one ever surfaced, it couldn't be legally owned. The 1964-D Peace Dollar is American numismatics' great ghost: struck, recorded, and erased.

This canvas print is the closest any collector will come. The composition holds both diagnostic marks of the forbidden coin in a single image — the obverse with its 1964 date catching the light, and the reverse with its D mintmark resting in shadow. A coin that exists only in mint records, given the wall presence it was never allowed to have.
