The Context
The work begins with a real coin, place, symbol or historical moment and builds outward from that source.

The story behind the piece
The Promise Beyond the Threshold captures a quiet moment within the American Revolution—not the charge of battle, but the reason for enduring it.
A mother and child stand in the doorway of a modest colonial home. Beyond them, smoke rises over a countryside touched by war. A soldier's coat hangs silently inside. Someone who belongs in that coat is absent.
Yet the painting is filled with light.
Above the distant landscape, Liberty emerges almost imperceptibly from the morning sky—a vision of the nation these sacrifices might someday create. She is not presented as a monument or an emblem imposed upon the scene, but as something not yet fully realized: an idea suspended between hope and history.
The doorway becomes the central metaphor. Behind it is the familiar world of home and family. Beyond it lies uncertainty, sacrifice, and ultimately the possibility of a new nation.
The child cannot know what America will become. The mother cannot know whether the Revolution will succeed. They can only look outward.
That is the threshold.
Created in Mintmark's Human Narrative tradition, the work places numismatic imagery inside the human story from which it emerged. Rather than simply displaying Liberty, it asks what Liberty might have meant to the people who lived before the outcome was known.
History remembers the victory. This piece remembers those who had to believe before there was one.
Mintmark — Preserve the story. Hold the history.
I especially like that final italicized line for this piece. It communicates the entire painting without explaining it to death. This is exactly the kind of restrained emotional storytelling we wanted the Human Narrative lane to accomplish.
